April 8 - 14, 2018The Weston Department of Public Works continued to fulfill its mission to construct and maintain the physical infrastructure that provides for the public's health and safety, to protect the environment, and to enhance the quality of life and ensure that Weston continues to be a desirable place in which to live and conduct business. The following is the weekly report, by division:

Administration/Engineering Division Paving and RoadworkOngoingDPW continues to work on obtaining necessary easements on Newton Street before roadway work can be planned Progress MadeNewton Street design work is nearing completion and construction work will take place in spring/summer before roadway reconstruction occurs Calendar Year 2018 Anticipated Roadway Reconstructions – - Summer St., Fairview Road and Montvale Road intersection, Winter Street (Route 30 to Brown Street), Perry Lane, Juniper Road, Aspen Road, Glen Road (Wellesley Street to Oak Street), and Highland Street (Pine Street to Route 30) assuming all gas work, water work, and drainage work is completed;
- DPW anticipates Gail Road, Pembroke Road, Webster Road, and Arrowhead Road will occur if the gas work (National Grid) can get completed this year;
- Milling and overlaying a section of Conant Road (Church Street to old railroad bridge) is also anticipated;
New/Coming- Summer Street – erosion control work scheduled for early next week, drainage work shortly thereafter, reclaim work and then paving binder course of pavement;
- Conant Road (Church Street to approximately old rail road crossing) – milling tentatively scheduled for April 20th;
- Perry Lane – hydrant work will occur over the next week and then roadway will be reclaimed and binder course installed;
- Sutton Place – reclaim and then binder course of pavement installed
State/Utility Project WorkOngoing- Route 30 (South Avenue) and Wellesley Street Signal Improvement Project - final landscaping and final cleanup outstanding. MassDOT and its contractor are non-committal with schedule to complete;
- National Grid’s gas relay projects - Church Street at/about Pigeon Hill Road (project currently on hold)
- Continuing to coordinate with Eversource on a number of outstanding issues in Town including double poles, poles guyed into trees, leaning poles and pole guyed with rope (Merriam Street), hazard trees at/near power lines, etc.
- National Grid's Gas Relay Projects (carry over from 2017):
- Wellesley Street including Bass Pond Road (Rockport Road to town line) – National Grid will final trench pave at the end of May/beginning of June 2018;
- Conant Road / Colchester Road – National Grid will final trench pave at the end of May/beginning of June 2018;
- Glen Road (Wellesley Street to Cliff Road intersection plus or minus) gas main replacement ongoing
National Grid’s Gas Relay Projects - proposed for construction 2018 - Glen Road (Wellesley Street to Oak Street), Gail Road, Pembroke Road, Sherburn Circle, continuation of Wellesley Street (699-654), Newton Street, and Concord Road (1-81)

Ongoing ProjectsContinuing- Black Oak Pump Station Project – Town Engineer working on easement document. Town Engineer working with Eversource and property owner to address some/all pole concerns;
- Southside Drainage Project - continuing to work with consultant and attempting to secure the necessary easements for Phase 2 of the project. Once completed, the permitting will be conducted with construction anticipated for spring 2018. Town Engineer working on securing necessary easements. Conservation Commission meeting upon receipt of all Phase II easement will be next action item;
Progress Made- FY 2018 Water Main Improvements (Columbine, Dean with Chiltern as add alternate) - contractor stringing temporary water main with anticipating activation week of April 23rd;
- Cooks Pond Dam and Pump Rehabilitation Project - de-watering and excavation for wall construction underway, electrical work completed at pump house;
- Paines Hill Water Tank Improvement Project - Contractor is securing necessary permits and the work is set to start the week of April 16th
Consultant WorkOngoing- Overseeing consultants’ work on Warren Avenue Sidewalk Project;
- Overseeing consultant design work for drainage work for construction season 2016 (Newton Street, Merriam Street, and Fairview/Montvale roads area). Continue to attempt to secure required easements on Newton Street;
- Town Center Improvement Project - Overseeing consultant concept / design work. Consultant awaiting design decisions from the Town Center Planning Committee on intersection at Boston Post Road/Church Street/School Street; Preliminary Eversource meeting occurred on February 6th with a follow-up meeting schedule within next 4 weeks. Preliminary plans anticipated at beginning of April 2018. Have a meeting set for April 18th to discuss progress prints;
- Merriam Street Sidewalk Project - funding needs to be secured (Annual Town Meeting) for the work, culvert replacement and drainage work needs to take place, sidewalk project needs to be coordinated with roadway work;
- Wireless Meter Reading, meter replacements and meter installation (approximately 1700) - Interviews with vendors that met criteria was held on March 21st. No change, yet
Progress Made- Fairview and Montvale roads area - planned start date of April 23rd;
- Concord Road Culvert replacement (which has impacts on the Warren Avenue and Merriam Street culverts) - Decision matrix tabling is being evaluated;
Engineering- Water Main Replacements - Columbine and Dean Road: Pre-construction meeting held. Notices went out to abutters. First construction activity will be setting up and testing the temporary water main, which is anticipated to occur the week of April 16th with final testing being completed the week of April 23rd;
- Currently reviewing 10 Stormwater Permits;
- Currently issued 55 Stormwater permits which also requires construction inspection

Water Division- Completed approximately 57 DigSafes;
- Performed weekly samples (3), monthly water samples at tanks, and station/tank inspections;
- Conducted 1 final read;
- Inspected 2 new water services;
- Installed 1 large meter;
- Continued hydrant flushing program;
- Continued to check on high water bill complaints;

Park and Cemetery Division- 2 cremation interments;
- Assisted the Transfer Station with push downs on bins with backhoe as necessary;
- Cleaned and serviced equipment;
- Started spring cleanup in Linwood Cemetery;
- Assisted Highway with picked up fallen branches and trees from the storms

Solid Waste and Recycling Division- Processed 1, 100-yard solid waste dumpsters totaling 23.13 tons;
- Picked up municipal office recycling – 2,960 lbs;
- Picked up Town office and select Town park solid waste – 1,140 lbs.;
- Processed 1 cardboard container – 5.68 tons;
- Processed 1 glass container – 4.21 tons;
- Processed 1 bulky plastic container – 1.54 tons;
- Processed 1 newspaper container – 9.77 tons;
- Ran 1 shuttle for grass/leaves – 4.67 tons;
- Ran 2 shuttles for brush /logs – 11.07 tons;
- Processed 1 metal container – 3.73 tons;
- Process 1 container of scrap wood – 4.10 tons;
- Assisted with the pickup of various donations including clothing, electronics, books and bikes – 2,040 lbs;
- Assisted with pickup of recycled textiles – 960 lbs;
- Electronics and appliances w/Freon – 1,540 lbs.;
- Processed the pickup of CRT electronics – 3.19 tons;
- Organized and maintained order in swap shed;
- Cleaned and pumped in the trailer pit as needed;
- Picked up litter and cleaned up around the site as needed

Highway/Stormwater Division- Hot patching potholes: various;
- Fallen tree / branch removal from roadways: finished the north section of town and started south section - ongoing;
- Traffic signage and maintenance repairs: various;
- Respond to miscellaneous calls for service: roadside litter and objects in roadway, illegal sign removal;
- Inspect and/or as necessary all mailbox call locations: various outstanding locations;
- Repair fence: finish fence repair at Wellesley Street;
- Located structures and piping: Summer Street in anticipation of roadway reconstruction;
- Distribute resident notification letter of impending roadway reconstructions: Summer Street, Perry Lane, and Conant Road (portion);
- Locate message boards: Summer Street (both ends of the roadway);
- Brush Dump cleanup and organization.

Vehicle Maintenance Division- Performed routine maintenance (fluid services, tires and brakes, exhaust, steering and suspension, exterior trim work and electrical repairs) on 10 school buses, 3 police vehicles, 13 DPW trucks and other equipment, and 1 recreation vehicle;
- Performed 1 major repair on vehicles with Major/Significant maintenance activity: School bus inspections;
