March 11 - 17, 2018The Weston Department of Public Works continued to fulfill its mission to construct and maintain the physical infrastructure that provides for the public's health and safety, to protect the environment, and to enhance the quality of life and ensure that Weston continues to be a desirable place in which to live and conduct business. The following is the weekly report, by division:

Administration/Engineering Division Paving and RoadworkOngoing- Fairview and Montvale roads design work is complete and construction work will take place in spring/summer before roadway reconstruction occurs;
- DPW continues to work on drainage designs and obtaining necessary easements before roadway work can be planned on Newton Street
State/Utility Project WorkOngoing- Route 30 (South Avenue) and Wellesley Street Signal Improvement Project - final landscaping and final cleanup outstanding. MassDOT and its contractor are non-committal with schedule to complete;
- National Grid’s gas relay projects - Church Street at/about Pigeon Hill Road (project currently on hold)
- Continuing to coordinate with Eversource on a number of outstanding issues in Town including double poles, poles guyed into trees, leaning poles and pole guyed with rope (Merriam Street), hazard trees at/near power lines, etc.
ProgressNational Grid's Gas Relay Projects (carry over from 2017): - Wellesley Street including Bass Pond Road (Rockport Road to town line) – National Grid will final trench pave at the end of May/beginning of June 2018;
- Conant Road / Colchester Road – National Grid is working on final tie over, then will final trench pave at the end of May/beginning of June 2018;
- Glen Road (Wellesley Street to Cliff Road intersection plus or minus) gas main replacement to start March 2018
National Grid’s Gas Relay Projects - proposed for construction 2018: Glen Road (Wellesley Street to Oak Street), Gail Road, Pembroke Road, Sherburn Circle, continuation of Wellesley Street (699-654), Newton Street, and Concord Road (1-81)

Ongoing ProjectsContinuing- Black Oak Pump Station Project – Town Engineer working on easement document. Town Engineer working with Eversource and property owner to address some/all pole concerns;
- Southside Drainage Project - continuing to work with consultant and attempting to secure the necessary easements for Phase 2 of the project. Once completed, the permitting will be conducted with construction anticipated for spring 2018. Town Engineer working on securing necessary easements. Conservation Commission meeting upon receipt of all Phase II easement will be next action item
Progress- Cooks Pond Dam and Pump Rehabilitation Project - overseeing consultants’ work, Engineering is advancing execution of contract, then a pre-construction meeting will be held;
- Paines Hill Water Tank Improvement Project - pre-construction meeting held;
- FY 2018 Water Main Improvements (Columbine, Dean with Chiltern as add alternate). Engineering advancing execution of contract, then a pre-construction meeting will be held
Consultant WorkOngoing- Overseeing consultants’ work on several sidewalk design projects - plans available for viewing online.
- Warren Avenue Sidewalk Project - DPW has reached out to an impacted abutter from whom an easement is required;
- Merriam Street Sidewalk Project - several easement issues remain. Met with Planning Board (January 31st) and Conservation Commission (January 23rd- continued). Several site walks have taken place.
- Overseeing consultant design work for drainage work for construction season 2016 (Newton Street, Merriam Street, and Fairview/Montvale roads area). Continue to attempt to secure required easements on Newton Street;
- Town Center Improvement Project - Overseeing consultant concept / design work. Consultant awaiting design decisions from the Town Center Planning Committee on intersection at Boston Post Road/Church Street/School Street; Preliminary Eversource meeting occurred on February 6th with a follow-up meeting schedule within next 4 weeks. Preliminary plans anticipated at beginning of April 2018;
- Overseeing consultant design and permitting for Concord Road Culvert replacement which has impacts on the Warren Avenue and Merriam Street culverts. Design ongoing.
Progress Made- Design work completed for drainage work at Fairview and Montvale roads area. Engineering is advancing execution of contract, then a pre-construction meeting will be held;
- Wireless Meter Reading, meter replacements and meter installation (approximately 1700) - four proposals were received and evaluated. Anticipating interviewing shortlisted vendors on March 21, 2018
Engineering- Completed the in-house design for Water Main Replacements at Columbine and Dean roads. Award of contract issued;
- Currently reviewing 10 Stormwater Permits;
- Currently issued 50 Stormwater permits which also requires construction inspection

Water Division- Completed approximately 27 DigSafes;
- Performed weekly samples (3), monthly water samples at tanks, and station/tank inspections;
- Conducted 3 final reads;
- Worked on pump station maintenance;
- Assisted with sanding and plowing operations including Town Center snow pickup and clearing fire hydrants

|
Park and Cemetery Division- 1 cremation interment;
- 2 graves dug with casket interments;
- Assisted the Transfer Station with push downs on bins with backhoe as necessary;
- Cleaned and serviced equipment;
- Assisted Solid Waste & Recycling Division with solid waste and recycling pick-up from Town buildings;
- Picked up fallen branches from the storms;
- Assisted Highway Division with plowing and sanding operations and Town Center snow pickup

Solid Waste and Recycling Division- Processed 1, 100-yard solid waste dumpster totaling 18.53 tons;
- Picked up municipal office recycling – 1,100 lbs;
- Picked up Town office and select Town park solid waste – 1,020 lbs.;
- Processed 1 cardboard container – 4.06 tons;
- Processed 1 glass container – 7.01 tons;
- Processed 1 newspaper container – 8.56 tons;
- Assisted with the pickup of various donations including clothing, electronics, books and bikes – 400 lbs;
- Processed 5 cent deposit bottles and cans – 340 lbs;
- Assisted with the pick-up of propane tanks – 1,820 lbs;
- Organized and maintained order in swap shed;
- Cleaned and pumped in the trailer pit as needed;
- Assisted with snow sanding and plowing operations and Town Center snow pickup

Highway/Stormwater Division- Hot patching potholes: various;
- Fallen tree / branch removal from roadways: various;
- Traffic signage and maintenance repairs: various;
- Oversee tree removal contractor: Ridgeway Road;
- Inspect miscellaneous tree locations for possible action: numerous;
- Tree and debris removal: various;
- Cleaned and serviced all deicing equipment and plows: Service and Prep. for response if needed;
- Responded to miscellaneous calls for service: roadside litter and objects in roadway, illegal sign removal;
- Inspect and/or as necessary all mailbox call locations: various outstanding locations;
- Nor’easter storm: 28” storm;
- Snow Removal: Town Center, Town Hall, Center Street, Route 20 and 30 Intersections, and Case’s corner

Vehicle Maintenance Division- Performed routine maintenance (fluid services, tires and brakes, exhaust, steering and suspension, exterior trim work and electrical repairs) on 4 school buses, 5 police vehicles, 21 DPW trucks and other equipment, and 2 school grounds vehicles;
- Performed 2 major repairs on vehicles with Major/Significant maintenance activity: Bus #27 rear brake calipers and Bus #15 brake lines;
- Performed 2 repairs on sanders/plows: H-15 hydraulic hose and H-22 snow blower repairs
- Assisted Highway Division with sanding and/or plowing operations and Town Center snow removal
