September 4 - 9, 2017The Weston Department of Public Works continued to fulfill its mission to construct and maintain the physical infrastructure that provides for the public's health and safety, to protect the environment, and to enhance the quality of life and ensure that Weston continues to be a desirable place in which to live and conduct business. The following is the weekly report, by division:

Administration/Engineering Division Paving and Roadwork
- Brown Street Sidewalk Project - construction is ongoing. Anticipate patching areas where the old poles were removed to be done the week of September 11th, then the project will then be completed!!!
- North Avenue Roadway Resurfacing Work – Additional pavement markings work required at Lexington Street intersection. Final pavement markings work in summer 2017. Remaining work will include seeding and final cleanup in the spring/summer 2017;
- Viles Street – Reclamation work completed the week of September 6th. Anticipate installing binder course September 12th;
- Locust Street and Merriam Street (Concord Road to Sunset Road) – Anticipate starting work on these two roadways once National Grid has completed its work on Merriam Street which is anticipated the week of September 18th.
- Fairview / Montvale drainage design work has begun and must be completed prior to a roadway reconstruction.
- DPW continues to work on drainage designs and necessary easements before roadway work can be planned on Newton Street
State/Utility Project Work- Route 20 Milling and Resurfacing Project – MassDOT has been made aware of some puddle issues. MassDOT is also setting the schedule for milling and overlay work on Route 20 (from School Street to I-95 Interchange);
- Route 30 (South Avenue) and Wellesley Street Signal Improvement Project - Milling work completed on September 8th. Final paving completed on September 9th. Pavement markings, sign installations, final landscaping, and final cleanup will follow;
- National Grid’s gas relay projects on Merriam Street are underway with anticipated completion by the end of September. Summer Street gas main replacement work is ongoing and anticipated to be complete in October. National Grid is planning work on Church Street at/about Pigeon Hill Road, Winter Street (South Avenue to Brown Street), and Wellesley Street (Rockport Road to Bogel Street)

Ongoing Projects- Black Oak Pump Station Project ongoing – Engineering for generator move and final landscaping and screening is underway. Town Engineer will conduct an outreach prior to advertising work is completed;
- Overseeing consultants’ work on Cooks Pond Dam and Pump Rehabilitation Project. It is anticipated the project will be re-advertised in fall;
- Overseeing consultants’ work on the Southside Drainage Project. Attempting to secure the necessary easements for Phase 2 of the project. Once completed, the permitting will be conducted with construction anticipated for Spring 2018;
- Paines Hill Water Tank Improvement Project. It is anticipated the project will be re-advertised in fall
Consultant Work- Overseeing consultants’ work on several sidewalk design projects – Latest plans available for viewing online.
- Warren Avenue Sidewalk Project - DPW has reached out to impacted abutter of the project from whom an easement is required
- Merriam Street Sidewalk Project - several easement issues remain and the project has gone before the Conservation Commission and Planning Board. Several site walks have taken place.
- Ash Street Sidewalk concept - Overseeing consultants’ work on concept plan. Outreach by Traffic & Sidewalk Committee conducted;
- Overseeing consultant’s work on the modification of the Boston Post Road / Wellesley Street intersection study and the Boston Post Road / School Street intersection study. Anticipate submitting project to the State as a TIP project;
- Overseeing consultant design work for drainage work for construction season 2016 (Newton Street, Merriam Street, and Fairview/Montvale Road area). Continue to attempt to secure required easements on Newton Street. Continued to work on design at Fairview and Montvale roads area;
- Overseeing consultant concept / design work for Town Center Project. Drainage inspection ongoing / summarizing drainage recommendation. Portion of the design contract for burying utilities is being prepared by consultant
Engineering- Currently reviewing 10 Stormwater Permits;
- Currently issued 64 Stormwater permits which also requires construction inspection

Water Division- Completed approximately 41 DigSafes;
- Performed weekly samples (3), monthly water samples at tanks, and station/tank inspections;
- Conducted 2 final read(s);
- Took lead and copper samples (15 residential dwellings and 2 school);
- Inspected new water service;
- Responded to 0 low-pressure calls;
- Responded to 0 dirty water calls

Park and Cemetery Division- 0 cremation interment;
- 1 grave dug with casket interment;
- Cut and trimmed the grass around Old Library and Josiah Tavern;
- Trim and prune in Linwood Cemetery;
- Pull 2 dead trees in Case Park and loamed and seeded area where the trees were removed;
- Install 0 flush markers;
- Assist the Transfer Station with push downs on bins with backhoe, as necessary;
- Clean and service equipment;
- Picked up downed branches in the Parks and Cemeteries after the heavy rain;
- Cut down and removed one large dead tree in Linwood Cemetery;
- Cut down and removed one medium dead tree in Case Park;
- Water new town trees from the watering list

Solid Waste and Recycling Division- Processed 1, 100-yard solid waste dumpsters totaling 23.19 tons;
- Picked up municipal building recycling – 1,340 lbs;
- Picked up Weston Town office and select town park trash – 1,180 lbs.;
- Processed cardboard container – 5.52 tons;
- Processed 1 glass container – 0 tons;
- Processed 1 plastic container – 0 tons;
- Processed 1 newspaper container – 5.85 tons;
- Ran 1 shuttles for grass/leaves – 10.26 tons;
- Ran 1 shuttles for brush /logs – 5.29 tons;
- Processed 1 metal container – 4.43 tons;
- Donations various – 0.91 tons (assisted with the pickup of various donations including clothing, electronics, books, and bikes);
- Electronics and appliances w/Freon – 0 tons;
- Processed the pickup of CRT electronics – 0 tons;
- Processed 5 cent deposit bottle and cans – 280 lbs;
- Processed 1 rechargeable battery pickup – 40 lbs;
- Processed pickup of medical sharps – 40 lbs;
- Organized and maintained order in swap shed;
- Cut the grass on the hill in front of and around the solar field trimming along the outside of the chain link fence;
- Installed new pump in the trailer pit and pumped the trailer pit as needed

Highway/Stormwater Division- Roadside mowing: Brown Street, Glen Road, Pigeon Hill Road, Hilltop Road, Country Drive, and Ware Street;
- Hot patching potholes: None;
- Mowing islands and grass strips: None;
- Oversee reclaim process: Viles Street;
- Oversee calcium process: Viles Street;
- Finish up sidewalk area: Wellesley Street;
- Cleanup contractor debris: Wellesley Street at High School Driveway;
- Rake down roadway shoulders: Ripley Lane, Sudbury Road, Highland Street, and Love Lane;
- Scrape, clean, and paint: North Avenue by Hobbs Brook;
- Clean, service, and prep. mowing equipment for following week's use;
- Repair storm damage (roadside erosion): Sudbury Road;
- Fallen tree / branch removal from roadways: Highland Street (tree), Country Lane, Chestnut Street, Glen Road, and Page Road;
- Traffic detours and signage and maintenance repairs: Viles Street, Wellesley Street, and Brown Street;
- Catch Basin Repairs: Glen Road at Cliff Road;
- Prep. catch basins for repairs: None;
- Pave basins of the week: None;

Vehicle Maintenance Division- Performed routine maintenance (fluid services, tires and brakes, exhaust, steering and suspension, exterior trim work and electrical repairs) on 11 school buses, 1 police vehicle, 2 DPW trucks and other equipment, 0 recreation vehicles, and 0 school grounds vehicles;
- Performed 1 major repair(s) on vehicles with Major/Significant maintenance activity: Bus inspection;
