June 19 - 23, 2017The Weston Department of Public Works continued to fulfill its mission to construct and maintain the physical infrastructure that provides for the public's health and safety, to protect the environment, and to enhance the quality of life and ensure that Weston continues to be a desirable place in which to live and conduct business. The following is the weekly report, by division:

Administration/Engineering Division Paving and Roadwork
- Brown Street Sidewalk Project - construction is ongoing with the overhead utility wires being relocated to new poles on Winter Street, then old poles will be removed. Comcast and then Verizon;
- North Avenue Roadway Resurfacing Work – Additional pavement markings work required at Lexington Street intersection. Final pavement markings work in summer 2017. Remaining work will include seeding and final cleanup in the spring/summer 2017;
- Resurface work on portions of Love Lane and Highland Street began on May 15th and work is anticipated to be completed by the end of June 2017. Structure adjustments will take place week of June 19th with final paving tentatively scheduled for Jun 29 and 30th, weather dependent;
- Coordinating resurfacing work for Sudbury Road with the towns of Wayland and Lincoln. Anticipate preliminary work (rock removal, erosion control, etc.), reclamation work, binder pavement installation, and final paving work to take 5-10 weeks, weather dependent beginning July 2017. Similar roadway reconstruction work will take place on Ripley Lane during that same period;
- We anticipate additional roadway reconstruction work (Fairview Road drainage work, Viles Street gas main work, and Locust Road gas main work) to take place later this summer, but the schedule is driven by other work that needs to occur first. We are continuing to work on drainage designs and necessary easements before roadway work can be planned on Newton Street. The Merriam Street gas main project will well underway, but will take most of the summer and likely end sometime in the fall
State/Utility Project Work- Overseeing National Grid’s gas relay project on Boston Post Road (Linwood to Church Street). Final trench paving contractor will be mobilized week of June 19th to conduct final trench milling and paving operations. Additional final trench paving work on Town House Road, Church Street, School Street, Bogel Street, Pigeon Hill Road (week of June 12th anticipated), Old Road (week of June 12th anticipated), and Hilltop Road (week of June 12th anticipated);
- Route 20 Milling and Resurfacing Project – MassDOT has been made aware of some puddle issues. MassDOT is also setting the schedule for milling and overlay work on Route 20 (from School Street to I-95 Interchange);
- Route 30 (South Avenue) and Wellesley Street Signal Improvement Project is continuing with moving the overhead utility lines move to new poles. Removal of existing utility poles is anticipated over the next several weeks;
- National Grid’s gas relay projects on Merriam Street and Viles Street are underway

Ongoing Projects- Black Oak Pump Station Project ongoing – Engineering for generator move and final landscaping and screening underway. Town Engineer will conduct an outreach prior to advertising the work to be completed;
- Overseeing consultants’ work on Cooks Pond Dam and Pump Rehabilitation Project. The project is anticipated to be readvertised in the fall;
- Overseeing consultants’ work on the Southside Drainage Project. Attempting to secure the necessary easements for Phase 2 of the project. Once completed, the permitting will be conducted with construction anticipated for spring 2018;
- Paines Hill Water Tank Improvement Project. The project is anticipated to be readvertised in the fall;
- Board of Selectmen approved gas relay projects by National Grid for Summer Street and Locust Road, which is scheduled to occur this construction season (2017)
Consultant Work- Overseeing consultants’ work on several sidewalk feasibility studies. Feasibility plans available for viewing online.
- Warren Avenue Sidewalk Project - DPW has reached out to two abutters of the project that require easements
- Merriam Street Sidewalk Project - several easement issues still exist and the project has gone before the Conservation Commission
- Highland Street Sidewalk Project is on hold. The Traffic & Sidewalk Committee has conducted abutter outreach;
- Overseeing consultants’ work on concept sidewalk plan for Ash Street. The Traffic & Sidewalk Committee needs to conduct abutter outreach;
- Overseeing consultant’s work on the modification of the Boston Post Road / Wellesley Street intersection study and the Boston Post Road / School Street intersection study. Anticipate submitting project to the state as a TIP project;
- Overseeing consultant design work for drainage work for construction season 2016 (Newton Street, Merriam Street, and Fairview/Montvale Road area). Continue to attempt to secure required easements on Newton Street. Continued to work on design at Fairview and Montvale roads area;
- Overseeing consultant concept / design work for Town Center Project - the survey work is completed, the drainage inspection is anticipated for the week of June 19th, the design contract has been executed. The portion of the design contract for burying utilities is being prepared by consultant;
Engineering- Currently reviewing 15 Stormwater Permits;
- Currently issued 60 Stormwater permits which also requires construction inspection

Water Division- Completed approximately 49 DigSafes;
- Performed weekly samples (3) and station/tank inspections;
- Conducted 5 final read(s);
- Continued meter reading cycle 2;
- Installed 2 new water meters and valves;
- Responded to 0 low-pressure calls;
- Responded to 0 dirty water calls;
- Began painting fire hydrants and watering of newly planted trees

Park and Cemetery Division- Conducted 4 funeral service(s);
- Cutting at Cemeteries and Parks;
- Work continued on Cemetery Conservation contract at Farmers Burial Ground

Solid Waste and Recycling Division- Processed approximately 41 tons of solid waste and (not calculated this week) tons of recycling;
- Policed Transfer Station for litter;
- Picked up trash and recycling at various town buildings

Highway/Stormwater Division- Patching various areas (Ash, Summer, Woodridge, etc.);
- Cold patching various locations;
- Repair of drainage infrastructure (basin repairs) at various locations: 2 at Buckskin Drive;
- Worked with paving contractor on Love Lane and Highland Street;
- Roadside trim and mow, including Brown, Ash, Winter, Bogle, Brenton, Tyler, etc.;
- Continue island renovations on North Avenue;
- Tree Removals with contractor on Wellesley, Bogel, Glen, Ash, Oak, etc.;
- Trimmed and/or removed branches and vines blocking or hanging on street signs;
- Sign, mailbox, and fence repairs

Vehicle Maintenance Division- Performed routine maintenance (fluid services, tires and brakes, exhaust, steering and suspension, exterior trim work and electrical repairs) on 11 school buses, 4 police vehicles, 7 DPW trucks and other equipment, 1 recreation vehicle, and 0 school grounds vehicles;
- Performed 0 major repair(s) on vehicles with Major/Significant maintenance activity;
- Performed 0 repairs on sanders/plows
