April 24 - 29, 2017The Weston Department of Public Works continued to fulfill its mission to construct and maintain the physical infrastructure that provides for the public's health and safety, to protect the environment, and to enhance the quality of life and ensure that Weston continues to be a desirable place in which to live and conduct business. The following is the weekly report, by division:

Administration/Engineering Division Paving and Roadwork
- Brown Street Sidewalk Project - construction is ongoing and overhead utility wires are being relocated to new poles on Winter Street, then old poles will be removed;
- North Avenue Roadway Resurfacing Work – Additional pavement markings work required at Lexington Street intersection. Final pavement markings work in spring 2017. Remaining work will include seeding and final cleanup in spring 2017;
- Wellesley Street, Westland Road, Silver Hill Road, Blueberry Hill, Buttonwood Lane, and Ware Road Roadway Resurfacing Work – Completed loaming, seeding and final cleanup work on Westland Road and Silver Hill Road. Remaining work on other roadways will include loaming, seeding, and final cleanup in spring 2017;
- Boston Post Road Sidewalk Work – Remaining work will include loaming, seeding, and final cleanup in spring 2017
State/Utility Project Work- Overseeing National Grid’s gas relay project on Boston Post Road (Linwood to Church Street). Final trench paving contractor will be mobilized May 2017 to conduct final trench paving operations;
- MassDOT's Route 20 Milling and Resurfacing Project – MassDOT is aware of some puddle issues and is also setting the schedule for milling and overlay work on Route 20 (from School Street to I-95 Interchange);
- Route 30 (South Avenue) and Wellesley Street Signal Improvement Project - the work to move the overhead utility lines has continued. Removal of existing utility poles is anticipated over the next several weeks.
- Board of Selectmen approved gas relay projects by National Grid for Merriam Street, Viles Street, Summer Street, and Locust Road, which are scheduled to occur this construction season (2017). Merriam Street gas relay project currently underway by National Grid

Ongoing Projects- Black Oak Pump Station Project – Engineering for generator move and final landscaping and screening underway. Town Engineer will conduct an outreach prior to advertising work;
- Overseeing consultants’ work on Cooks Pond Dam and Pump Rehabilitation Project. Construction is anticipated to start on the pump house over the next few weeks;
- Overseeing consultants’ work on the Southside Drainage Project - attempting to secure the necessary easements for Phase 2 of the project. Once completed, the permitting will be conducted with construction anticipated for spring 2018;
- Finalized consultant proposal and scope for the Paines Hill Water Tank Improvement Project. Advertised project for construction. Bid opening scheduled for May 17th
Consultant Work- Overseeing consultants’ work on several sidewalk feasibility studies: Merriam Street, Highland Street, and Warren Avenue – Feasibility plans are available for viewing online.
- Warren Avenue Sidewalk Project - DPW has reached out to two abutters of the project that require easements.
- Merriam Street Sidewalk Project - several easement issues still exist and the project has gone before the Conservation Commission.
- Highland Street Sidewalk Project is on hold. Outreach by Traffic & Sidewalk Committee conducted;
- Overseeing consultants’ work on concept sidewalk plan for Ash Street. Outreach by Traffic & Sidewalk Committee needs to be conducted;
- Overseeing consultant’s work on the modification of the Boston Post Road / Wellesley Street intersection study and the Boston Post Road / School Street intersection study;
- Church Street Pedestrian Railing contract awarded. Shop drawing and fabrication is underway;
- Overseeing consultant design work for drainage work for construction season 2016 (Newton Street, Merriam Street, and Fairview/Montvale Road area);
- Overseeing consultant concept/design work for Town Center Project. Survey and drainage inspection underway. Design contract executed
Engineering- Currently reviewing 13 Stormwater Permits;
- Currently issued 60 Stormwater permits which also requires construction inspection

Water Division- Completed approximately 55 DigSafes;
- Performed weekly samples (3) and station/tank inspections;
- Conducted 6 final read(s);
- Continued hydrant flushing program;
- Installed 0 new meters;
- Inspected 1 new water service;
- Fixed 6” water service (off Town House Road);
- Installed and turned on summer services meters

Park and Cemetery Division- Conducted 2 funeral service(s);
- Removed tree limbs and debris from cemeteries;
- Work continued on Cemetery Conservation contract at Farmers Burial Ground

Solid Waste and Recycling Division- Processed approximately 32 tons of solid waste and (not calculated this week) tons of recycling;
- Policed Transfer Station for litter;
- Assisted with garden by Town Hall;
- Picked up trash and recycling at various town buildings

Highway/Stormwater Division- Patching various areas;
- Continued Street Sweeping Program;
- Check and clear waterways;
- Assist with new garden area by Town Hall;
- Roadside loaming and seeding
- Sign, mailbox, and fence repairs
|
|
|
|
Vehicle Maintenance Division- Performed routine maintenance (fluid services, tires and brakes, exhaust, steering and suspension, exterior trim work and electrical repairs) on 10 school buses, 2 police vehicles, 7 DPW trucks and other equipment, 0 recreation vehicles, and 2 school grounds vehicles;
- Performed 7 major repair(s) on vehicles with Major/Significant maintenance activity – school bus inspections;
- Performed 1 repairs on sanders/plows: S-12 fluid film stander and store for summer
