March 26 - April 1, 2017The Weston Department of Public Works continued to fulfill its mission to construct and maintain the physical infrastructure that provides for the public's health and safety, to protect the environment, and to enhance the quality of life and ensure that Weston continues to be a desirable place in which to live and conduct business. The following is the weekly report, by division:

Administration/Engineering Division Paving and Roadwork
- Brown Street Sidewalk Project - overhead utility wires will be relocated to new poles on Winter Street, then old poles will be removed;
- North Avenue Roadway Resurfacing Work – Additional pavement markings work required at Lexington Street intersection. Final pavement markings work in the spring 2017. Remaining work will include seeding and final cleanup in the spring 2017;
- Wellesley Street, Westland Road, Silver Hill Road, Blueberry Hill, Buttonwood Lane, and Ware Road Roadway Resurfacing Work – Remaining work will include loaming, seeding, and final cleanup in the spring 2017;
- Boston Post Road Sidewalk Work – Remaining work will include loaming, seeding, and final cleanup in the spring 2017
State/Utility Project Work- Overseeing National Grid’s gas relay project on Boston Post Road (Linwood to Church Street, Town House Road, Church Street, & School Street). Final trench paving contractor will be mobilized April/May 2017 to conduct final trench paving operations;
- Overseeing National Grid’s gas relay project on Bogel Street, Pigeon Hill Road, Old Road, and Hilltop Road. Final trench paving contractor will be mobilized April/May 2017 to conduct final trench paving operations;
- MassDOT Route 20 Milling and Resurfacing Project – MassDOT has been made aware of some puddle issues and will be resurfacing the remaining section of Route 20 (School Street to I-95) during this construction season;
- Bridge that carries River Road over Charles River – MassDOT has been made aware of some joint and bridge deck issues and will be mobilizing to conduct repairs to the deck and joints during this construction season;
- Route 30 (South Avenue) and Wellesley Street Signal Improvement Project -moving the overhead utility lines to new poles has continued. Removal of existing utility poles anticipated over the next several weeks. Signal mast arms will be installed over the next several weeks

Ongoing Projects- Black Oak Pump Station Project ongoing – Engineering for generator move and final landscaping and screening underway. Town Engineer will conduct an outreach prior to advertising work is completed;
- Overseeing consultants’ work on Cooks Pond Dam and Pump Rehabilitation Project. Permitting and document presentation anticipated in next couple of weeks;
- Finalized consultant proposal and scope for the Paines Hill Water Tank Improvement Project. Design process moving forward. Outreach to two abutters has been conducted. Advertising of the project is the next action item;
- Preparing for National Grid (gas) work on approved gas relay projects in support of the Town’s Roadway Reconstruction Program for Merriam Street, Viles Street, Summer Street, and Locust Road, which are scheduled to occur this construction season (2017). Work anticipated to begin early April 2017. Preconstruction meeting held for Merriam Street
Consultant Work- Overseeing consultants’ work on several sidewalk feasibility studies (Merriam Street, Ash Street concept plans and Warren Avenue) – Design plans available for viewing online. Outreach by Committee has been conducted;
- Overseeing consultant’s work on the modification of the Boston Post Road / Wellesley Street intersection study and the Boston Post Road / School Street intersection study;
- Church Street Pedestrian Railing contract has been awarded. Work is anticipated to start beginning of April. Shop drawing review ongoing;
- Overseeing consultant design work for drainage work for construction season 2016 (Newton Street, Merriam Street, and Fairview/Montvale Road area);
- Overseeing consultant concept / design work for Town Center Project. Portion of Contract executed. Reviewing remaining contract items
Engineering- Currently reviewing 10 Stormwater Permits;
- Currently issued 56 Stormwater permits, which also requires construction inspection

Water Division- Completed approximately 39 DigSafes;
- Performed weekly samples (3) and station/tank inspections;
- Conducted 1 final read(s);
- Inspected 1 new water service;
- Installed 2 new meter(s);
- Investigated high water bill complaints;
- Did assist the Highway Division with snow and ice operations, sanding and scraping operation

Park and Cemetery Division- Conducted 0 funeral service(s);
- Removed tree limbs and debris from cemeteries;
- Work suspended on Cemetery Conservation contract at Farmers' Burial Ground.

Solid Waste and Recycling Division- Processed approximately 28 tons of solid waste and 17 tons of recycling;
- Policed Transfer Station for litter;
- Picked up trash and recycling at various town buildings
- Did assist the Highway Division with snow and ice operations, scraping operation

Highway/Stormwater Division- Snow and Ice Operations – Sanding and Scraping on March 31st – April 1st ;
- Pothole patching;
- Tree and debris cleanup;
- Sign and mailbox repairs
|
|
|
|
Vehicle Maintenance Division- Performed routine maintenance (fluid services, tires and brakes, exhaust, steering and suspension, exterior trim work and electrical repairs) on 10 school buses, 1 police vehicles, 12 DPW trucks and other equipment, 0 recreation vehicles, and 0 school grounds vehicles;
- Performed 1 major repair on vehicles with Major/Significant maintenance activity – S-4 tailgate;
- Performed 0 repair on sanders/plows;
- Did assist the Highway Division with snow and ice operations, sanding and scraping operation
