February 19 - 25, 2017The Weston Department of Public Works continued to fulfill its mission to construct and maintain the physical infrastructure that provides for the public's health and safety, to protect the environment, and to enhance the quality of life and ensure that Weston continues to be a desirable place in which to live and conduct business. The following is the weekly report, by division:

Administration/Engineering Division Paving and Roadwork
- Brown Street Sidewalk Project - construction is ongoing. Overhead utility wires are being relocated to new poles on Winter Street, then old poles will be removed;
- North Avenue Roadway Resurfacing Work – Additional pavement markings work required at Lexington Street intersection. Final pavement markings work in the spring 2017. Remaining work will include seeding and final cleanup in the spring 2017;
- Wellesley Street, Westland Road, Silver Hill Road, Blueberry Hill Road, Buttonwood Lane, and Ware Road Roadway Resurfacing Work – Remaining work will include loaming, seeding, and final cleanup in the spring 2017;
- Boston Post Road Sidewalk Work – Remaining work will include loaming, seeding, and final cleanup in the spring 2017
State/Utility Project Work- Overseeing National Grid’s gas relay project on Boston Post Road (Linwood to Church Street). Final trench paving contractor will be mobilized April 2017 to conduct final trench paving operations;
- MassDOT – Route 20 Milling and Resurfacing Project – MassDOT has been made aware of some puddle issues;
- Route 30 (South Avenue) and Wellesley Street Signal Improvement Project. Eversource has set new poles and moving the overhead utility lines to new poles has continued. Removal of existing utility poles anticipated over the next several weeks
Ongoing Projects- Black Oak Pump Station Project ongoing – Engineering for generator move and final landscaping and screening underway. Town Engineer will conduct an outreach prior to advertising the work is completed;
- Overseeing consultants’ work on Cooks Pond Dam and Pump Rehabilitation Project;
- Finalized consultant proposal and scope for the Paines Hill Water Tank Improvement Project. Design process moving forward. Outreach to two abutters will occur before advertising work is completed
Consultant Work- Overseeing consultants’ work on several sidewalk feasibility studies (Merriam Street, Highland Street, and Warren Avenue) – Feasibility plans available for viewing online. Outreach by Traffic & Committee conducted;
- Overseeing consultant’s work on the modification of the Boston Post Road / Wellesley Street intersection study and the Boston Post Road / School Street intersection study;
- Church Street Pedestrian Railing contract awarded. Preconstruction meeting scheduled for next week. Anticipate starting work end of March / beginning of April;
- Overseeing consultant design work for drainage work for construction season 2016 (Newton Street, Merriam Street, and Fairview/Montvale Road area);
- Overseeing consultant concept / design work for Town Center Project. Contract being prepared for design work
Engineering- Currently reviewing 8 Stormwater Permits;
- Currently issued 56 Stormwater permits, which also requires construction inspection

Water Division- Completed approximately 15 DigSafes;
- Performed weekly samples (3) and station/tank inspections;
- Performed hydrant flushing to improve water quality;
- Conducted 2 final read(s);
- Conducted pump station maintenance;
- Witnessed a fire flow test

|
|
Park and Cemetery Division- Conducted 1 funeral service(s);
- Removed tree limbs and storm debris from cemeteries;
- Work suspended on Cemetery Conservation contract at Farmers Burial Ground

Solid Waste and Recycling Division- Processed approximately 23 tons of solid waste and 20 tons of recycling;
- Policed Transfer Station for litter;
- Picked up trash and recycling at various town buildings

Highway/Stormwater Division- Patching various areas;
- Basin Repairs various locations;
- Debris cleanup;
|
|
|
|
Vehicle Maintenance Division- Performed routine maintenance (fluid services, tires and brakes, exhaust, steering and suspension, exterior trim work and electrical repairs) on 7 school buses, 2 police vehicles, 8 DPW trucks and other equipment, 0 recreation vehicles, and 0 school grounds vehicles;
- Performed 0 major repair(s) on vehicles Major/Significant maintenance activity;
- Performed 3 repairs on sanders/plows;
- Did not assist the Highway Division with snow and ice operations
