January 22 - 28, 2017The Weston Department of Public Works continued to fulfill its mission to construct and maintain the physical infrastructure that provides for the public's health and safety, to protect the environment, and to enhance the quality of life and ensure that Weston continues to be a desirable place in which to live and conduct business. The following is the weekly report, by division:

Administration/Engineering Division Paving and Roadwork
- The Brown Street Sidewalk Project construction is ongoing. The utility overhead wires are being relocated to new poles on Winter Street, then the old poles will be removed;
- North Avenue Roadway Resurfacing Work – Additional pavement markings work is required at Lexington Street intersection. Final pavement markings work will be done in spring 2017. Remaining work will include seeding and final cleanup in spring 2017;
- Wellesley Street, Westland Road, Silver Hill Road, Blueberry Hill Road, Buttonwood Lane, and Ware Road Roadway Resurfacing Work – Remaining work will include loaming, seeding, and final cleanup in spring 2017;
- Boston Post Road Sidewalk Work – Remaining work will include loaming, seeding, and final cleanup in spring 2017;
State/Utility Project Work
- Overseeing National Grid’s gas relay project on Boston Post Road (from Linwood Road to Church Street). Final trench paving contractor will be mobilized April 2017 to conduct final trench paving operations;
- MassDOT – Route 20 Milling and Resurfacing Project – MassDOT has been made aware of some puddle issues;
- Route 30 (South Avenue) and Wellesley Street Signal Improvement Project. Eversource has set new poles. The transfer of overhead utility lines to new poles has continued. The removal of existing utility poles is anticipated over the next several weeks.
Ongoing Projects- Black Oak Pump Station Project is ongoing – Engineering for generator move and final landscaping and screening is underway. The Town Engineer will conduct an outreach prior to advertising work to be completed;
- Overseeing consultants’ work on Cooks Pond Dam and Pump Rehabilitation Project;
- Finalized consultant proposal and scope for the Paines Hill Water Tank Improvement Project. The design process is moving forward;
Consultant Work- Overseeing consultants’ work on several sidewalk feasibility studies (Merriam Street, Highland Street, and Warren Avenue) – Feasibility plans are available for viewing online. Outreach by the Traffic and Sidewalk Committee has been conducted;
- Overseeing consultant’s work on the modification of the Boston Post Road / Wellesley Street intersection study and the Boston Post Road / School Street intersection study;
- DPW is finalizing advertising package for construction specifications for railing replacement on Church Street at retaining wall. Bid award is ongoing;
- Overseeing consultant design work for drainage work for construction season 2017 (Newton Street, Merriam Street);
- Overseeing consultant concept / design work for Town Center Project.
Engineering- Currently reviewing 6 Stormwater Permits;
- Currently issued 58 Stormwater permits which also requires construction inspection

Water Division- Completed approximately 20 DigSafes;
- Performed weekly samples (3) and station/tank inspections;
- Continued to read water meters (Cycle 3);
- Conducted 3 final read(s);
- Continued to work with annual Leak Detection Program on leaking hydrants;
- Installed one new hydrant on Highland Street;
- Assisted Highway Division with snow and ice operations (sanding event).

Park and Cemetery Division- Conducted 2 funeral service(s);
- Performed grounds work at parks and cemeteries;
- Work has been suspended on Cemetery Conservation contract at Farmers Burial Ground;

Solid Waste and Recycling Division- Processed approximately 22 tons of solid waste and 16 tons of recycling;
- Policed Transfer Station for litter;
- Continued with repairs and painting interior areas of the transfer station;
- Picked up trash and recycling at various town buildings;

Highway/Stormwater Division- Pothole patching was conducted at several locations;
- Graveling and loaming at several locations;
- Assisted the Water Division with hydrant installation;
- Clearing catch basins and waterways;
- Clean, service and prepare snow and ice equipment;
- Conducted snow and ice operations on January 23rd – 24th, sanding event(s).

Vehicle Maintenance Division- Performed routine maintenance (fluid services, tires and brakes, exhaust, steering and suspension, exterior trim work and electrical repairs) on 7 school buses, 5 police vehicles, 2 DPW trucks and other equipment, 0 recreation vehicle, and 1 school grounds vehicles;
- Performed 0 major repairs;
- Performed 0 repairs on sanders/plows;
- Assisted the Highway Division with snow and ice operations.
