December 25 - 31, 2016The Weston Department of Public Works continued to fulfill its mission to construct and maintain the physical infrastructure that provides for the public's health and safety, to protect the environment, and to enhance the quality of life and ensure that Weston continues to be a desirable place in which to live and conduct business. The following is the weekly report, by division:

Administration/Engineering Division Paving and Roadwork
- Brown Street Sidewalk Project construction is ongoing - Utility overhead wires are being relocated to new poles on Winter Street, then old poles will be removed;
- North Avenue Roadway Resurfacing Work – Additional pavement markings work required at Lexington Street intersection. DPW staff met with contractor relating to addressing the immediate issue this winter and final pavement markings work in the spring 2017. Remaining work will include seeding and final cleanup in the spring 2017;
- Westland and Silver Hill Roads Roadway Resurfacing Work – Remaining work will include loaming, seeding, and final cleanup in the spring 2017;
- Blueberry Hill Road Roadway Resurfacing Work –Remaining work will include seeding and final cleanup in the spring 2017;
- Buttonwood Lane Roadway Resurfacing Work – Remaining work will include seeding and final cleanup in the spring 2017;
- Ware Road Roadway Resurfacing Work – Remaining work will include seeding and final cleanup in the spring 2017;
- Boston Post Road Sidewalk Work – Remaining work will include loaming, seeding, and final cleanup in the spring 2017;
- Wellesley Street Roadway Resurfacing Work – Remaining work will include loaming, seeding, and final cleanup in the spring 2017;
- School Street Pedestrian Signal at/about Alphabet Lane – Work completed working on minor adjustments;
State/Utility Project Work- Overseeing National Grid’s gas relay project on Boston Post Road (Linwood Ave. to Church St.). Anticipate demobilization week of January 9, 2017;
- MassDOT – Route 20 Milling and Resurfacing Project – MassDOT has been made aware of some puddle issues;
- Route 30 (South Avenue) and Wellesley Street Signal Improvement Project - Eversource has set new poles. Moving overhead utility lines to new poles has continued. Removal of existing utility poles anticipated over the next several weeks. There may be need for temporary pavement markings and protection of existing utility poles until the overhead utilities have been relocated.
Ongoing Projects- Black Oak Pump Station Project – Engineering for generator move and final landscaping and screening underway. Town Engineer will conduct an outreach prior to advertising work to be completed;
- Overseeing consultants’ work on Cooks Pond Dam and Pump Rehabilitation Project;
- Finalized consultant proposal and scope for the Paines Hill Water Tank Improvement Project. Design process moving forward;
Consultant Work
- Overseeing consultants’ work on several sidewalk feasibility studies (Merriam Street, Highland Street, and Warren Avenue) – Feasibility plans available for viewing online. Outreach by Traffic & Sidewalk Committee conducted;
- Overseeing consultant’s work on the modification of the Boston Post Road / Wellesley Street intersection study and the Boston Post Road / School Street intersection study;
- DPW finalizing advertising package for construction specifications for railing replacement Church Street at retaining wall. Bid opening scheduled for January 19, 2017;
- Overseeing consultant design work for drainage work for construction season 2016 (Newton Street, Merriam Street);
- Overseeing consultant concept / design work for Town Center Project
Engineering- Currently reviewing 7 Stormwater Permits;
- Currently issued 56 Stormwater permits, which also requires construction inspection

Water Division- Completed approximately 32 DigSafes;
- Performed weekly samples (3) and station/tank inspections;
- Continued to read water meters (Cycle 2);
- Conducted 3 final reads;
- Hooked up temporary water service to house while service leak is being fixed
- Checking on leaks discovered during annual Leak Detection Program on hydrants and services;
- Rebuilt 2 hydrants;
- Assisted Highway Division with snow and ice operations

Park and Cemetery Division- Conducted 1 funeral service;
- Performed fall cleanup at cemeteries;
- Work suspended on Cemetery Conservation contract at Farmers Burial Ground;
- Assisted Highway Division with snow and ice operations

Solid Waste and Recycling Division- Processed approximately 25 tons of solid waste and 19 tons of recycling;
- Policed Transfer Station for litter;
- Picked up trash and recycling at various town buildings;
- Assisted Highway Division with snow and ice operations

Highway/Stormwater Division- Pothole patching various locations;
- Conducted snow and ice operations on December 29th, 30th, and 31st
|
|
|
|
Vehicle Maintenance Division- Performed routine maintenance (fluid services, tires and brakes, exhaust, steering and suspension, exterior trim work and electrical repairs) on 7 school buses, 1 police vehicle, 5 DPW trucks and other equipment, 0 recreation vehicles, and 2 school grounds vehicles;
- Performed 0 major repairs
- Had Registry perform inspections on 29 buses;
- Performed 4 repairs on sanders/plows – cutting edges and plow joy sticks;
- Did assist the Highway Division with sanding and plowing operations.
