DPW Highlights: Equipment Maintenance Division

The Weston Department of Public Works is a department that does not always get the recognition it deserves.  We appreciate the men and women the DPW that continuously work hard to get things done so the Town remains as beautiful as a scenic postcard. We would like to recognize the DPW every week by highlighting each division, and provide insight to what their jobs entail. National Public Works Week is May 21-27, 2023, however we wanted to showcase them now. This week will highlight the Equipment Maintenance Division, which is led under the Supervisor Daryl Cyr. 

Existing Staff:

In the Equipment Maintenance Division there is the Supervisor, a Mechanic Grade 1,  and two Mechanic Grade 2s. 

Continuity of Operations (COOP) Plan:

• Repairs vehicles and equipment in accordance with specifications
• Troubleshooting, diagnosing and correcting problems with vehicles and equipment
• Remove, repair, and replace major components such as engines, etc.
• Perform preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment
• Perform body and frame modifications requiring welding, etc.
• Perform body work and selected painting
• Pickup, deliver, and unload parts and materials
• Operate Snow and Ice equipment
• Assist and Provide Support servicing mechanical components at Town Pump Station, etc
• Repair equipment and vehicles in the field and assist with towing 
• Train personnel on operating procedures and equipment
• Maintain records (repairs, inventory/stock, etc.)  in a complete and accurate manner
• Perform all work in accordance with safety guidelines and regulations
• Perform unique and unusual situations to supervisor (e.g., dents, etc)
• Perform other related functions with other Divisions or Departments as required or requested
• Provide extraordinary customer service
• Maintain Fleet: DPW, School Buses, Facilities, Recreation, Police, Fire, and Other
• Develop Specifications of new vehicles and equipment
• Maintain Automated Fuel System
• Maintenance of MSDS as well as HAZMAT records
• Watch over DPW Building and Grounds and maintain Environmental Compliance
