T'ai Chi Returns In-Person This Week

T'ai Chi Level 2 returns to the Community Center Tuesday, September 6 at 9:30! Targeted toward those with t'ai chi experience, this class focuses on refining the form and deepening our understanding of concepts and philosophies of t'ai chi. Even if you are new or need a refresher on t'ai chi, you are welcome to join us!

Pickleball, Weston?

Local and Global Foreign Policy Discussion Group to Discuss Local Issues

Thursday, September 8, 1:15-3:30 at the COA

Weston resident and volunteer Joel Angiolillo will lead our discussion on local issues, including hot topics in Weston and the State.

1) Two votes will come up at Weston Town Meeting on September 13th, one concerning the Town Pool renovations and the second focusing on designing and building Pickle Ball courts. But more generally, what are the recreational needs of, and options for, seniors in Weston?
2) In November we will vote on a ballot initiative to raise state income taxes on people who earn more than $1 million annually. What impact with this have on the Commonwealth?
3) In November we will also vote on a ballot initiative to restrict driver’s licenses to legal residents only. What are the arguments for and against?

Island Creek Oyster Farm Tour

Our Private Beacon Hill Neighborhood Food Tour filled up in a few hours but there are still a few seats left on our Island Creek Oyster Farm: Private Group Hatchery & Boat Tour on September 14!

Your 2-hour tour starts where the oysters do: in the hatchery, where you will see how farmers recreate the ideal conditions for oysters to reproduce and learn the stages of growing algae (oyster food). Next, you’ll head to the nursery where the team monitors oysters through a period of exponential growth before they are big enough to be planted out in the Bay… your next stop!

The captain of the Nathaniel Winsor, a 27-foot Carolina Skiff, will guide you out on the water for an up-close look at the heart of what they do at the farm. We’ll share oyster tales, toss back some freshly harvested oysters, and soak up the sun. If you’re up for it, they will even teach you to shuck your own.

Rain or shine. Cost: $100, includes tour, oysters and transportation. Call the COA at 781-786-6280 to register. Registration begins August 29. Payment required upon registration. Cancellation deadline 9/9 by 4:00 pm. Refunds will not be issued after this date.
