Community Updates on the Council on Aging

February Reflections and Outlook For a Bright March

The Council on Aging kept busy this month, offering the opportunity to participate in 12 weekly fitness classes, 13 virtual presentations and programs, 13 discussion groups, and 3 support groups... plus more, like take-home craft kits and tax appointments!

This Valentine's Day we handed out 60 delicious locally-made cupcakes that filled the bellies and warmed the hearts of those who dared to indulge. A huge thank you to the WCCA and Cub Scout Pack 157 for making thoughtful cards and festive frames for us to handout with the cupcakes and our weekly Meals on Wheels deliveries.

With the arrival of longer days filled with sunlight, budding daffodils breaking through cold earth, and many of our residents 65+ having received or registered for the COVID-19 vaccination, we are hopeful for a bright March.

We hope you will join us this spring for our virtual presentations, springtime gifts, and spreading the word of all that we offer.

By the way... Not 55+ yet but interested in joining a program? Don't hesitate to reach out! We welcome residents of all ages to join in on the fun. 781 786 6280 or reach out to Kristen at frady.k@westonma.gov

What Can I Do To Help?

We are grateful to the many residents who reached out to us to provide rides to older residents to vaccination appointments. We are happy to say that the amount of volunteers has exceeded demand for rides so far! To best help us at this time, notify others that safe rides are available through the Weston COA.

Please also continue to spread the word about our programs and remind people of our food pantry, and medical equipment loan program, and free taxi rides to medical appointments. Details below.

The Food Pantry is available to all Weston residents by delivery or curbside pick up by appointment.

Walkers, wheelchairs, rollators, canes, shower chairs and raised toilet seats are usually available by delivery or curbside pick up by appointment.

We have received a grant through Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) that provides no cost round-trip transportation to medical appointments to local towns as well as to Boston for older adults. Contact our social worker, Joyce McSweeney, for more information 781 786 6280.

Wishing everyone a Happy Spring and warmer, brighter days ahead. We hope to see you at the COA soon!
