MassDOT and the MBTA are undertaking a federally mandated Positive Train Control (PTC) infrastructure installation, which will increase the safety of commuter rail customers. The agencies would like to advise the community of daytime drill work within the right-of-way along the MBTA Fitchburg Commuter Rail Line from Waltham to Weston. Due to the equipment necessary to perform this work, high noise levels can be expected.
On Saturday, December 23rd the PTC Systems Integrator Ansaldo STS USA, Inc. will perform rock drilling activities during daytime work hours of between approximately 6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. If this work is not completed, work will resume during same hours on Saturday, December 30th.
The work will take place along the Fitchburg Line from the area in the vicinity of Waltham Station in Waltham to the area in the vicinity of Kendal Green Station in Weston.
For further information regarding the PTC work schedule please visit the MBTA PTC program website, which also includes project timelines and future disruptions.
MassDOT and the MBTA thank you in advance for your cooperation and appreciates your patience as the MBTA takes this important step in making the railways safer for customers with the implementation of the PTC program.
