Local and Global Discussion Group Pandemics: How Do We Remember Them and How Do We Prepare for the Future?
Thursday, April 8, 2021
Pandemics have affected mankind since the
dawn of time and have changed the course of
history. They don’t stop at national borders and
can appear and reappear nearly anywhere at
any time. Proper preparation for and
prevention of future outbreaks requires strong
international organizations along with
collective memory and understanding of past
pandemics to assure ongoing and effective
support of those organizations.
We’ll discuss this subject from two
perspectives: the role of international
organizations, the World Health Organization,
in particular, and pandemics of the past as
portrayed in literature and history.
The meeting is open to anyone who is
interested in a civil discussion of the issues with
wide participation from a variety of individuals.
