Health insurance for Town of Weston employees and retirees is governed by Chapter 32B of the Massachusetts General Laws and is administered by the state's Group Insurance Commission. As of July 1, 2021, the Town contributes 84.5% of the premium cost for HMO-type plans, 82% for PPO and POS type plans, and 65% for indemnity plans.

2021 Hardship Fund Program Open
The Public Employee Commission Agreement effective July 1, 2021 provides for a Hardship Fund for Weston employees and retirees on active (non-Medicare) health plans. The fund reimburses employees for certain out of pocket expenses incurred from July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021.
This program allows employees and retirees on non-Medicare plans to cancel their existing GIC health insurance during Open Enrollment or with a GIC-defined qualifying event. If approved the employee or retiree receives a stipend totaling $2750/yr. for an individual plan and $5500/yr. for a family plan. Participants must be enrolled in Town health insurance for 24 consecutive months prior to waiving of coverage. Proof of other insurance must be provided.
