What is Mindfulness?
For kids, it is to have them notice their thoughts, feelings and senses in the moment...to help relax, focus and have fun.
Why practice Mindfulness with children?
Benefits can include an increase in attention span, focus, and concentration, better relationships with parents and peers, good self esteem, better sleep habits, and less stress, anxiety, and depression; all of which can lead to better emotion regulation, self monitoring and self control.
In this class, the emphasis is on engaging the children's senses through activities. It is the awareness that is created during the activity that is beneficial, not the activity itself. When the senses are used the mind can*t drift off and get lost in thought and the result is MINDFULNESS. Parents attending this class can learn techniques to practice Mindfulness at home.
