August 10, 2017, 12:00 PM - September 4, 2017, 5:00 PM @ Spellman Museum of Stamps and Postal History
Visitors to the Spellman Museum of Stamps & Postal History on the Regis College campus in Weston are invited to do a “whale watch” in the Museum’s two main galleries. As part of its “Summer and Stamps – Gone Fish-In” exhibit, over 300 stamps from around the world featuring the great variety of whales and other ocean creatures are on display. Stamps from such countries as Iceland, Russia, Grenada, Liberia, St. Vincent, Tonga, Tuvalu and the Maldives picture the many species of ocean life. In addition, stamps issued by the United Nations to celebrate the International Year of the Ocean are exhibited,
Children can “fish” for stamps to start their own collection from the special philatelic fish tanks loaded with both United States and worldwide stamps. In addition, children can do stamp scavenger hunts in the galleries to win stamp prizes, design their own ocean stamps and decorate book marks with stamps. Booklets about how to start a stamp collection are also available for free.
August 26, 2017, 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM @ Land's Sake Farm
Spend a Saturday morning seeing the Farm through an artist’s eyes. Local landscape artist Larry Grob will help you take your first steps or hone your skills in plein air painting, as we focus on the rewards of outdoor painting…with tips on picking your subject, composition, technique, materials, ‘survival’ skills, and more. Larry will create a demo painting and be your coach as you try your hand at bringing the beauty of Land’s Sake to life. All media are welcome. Bring your own drawing board, sketchpad, canvas, paper, pencils, or paints…and a field easel if you have one. Larry will be demonstrating using pastels. Morning coffee and snacks will be provided.
