The Start Time/Scheduling Innovation Steering Committee, comprised of Weston Public Schools administration, staff, parents, and members of the School Committee, was formed in January 2017 with the charge to review, research, and suggest changes aimed at improving the health and well-being of Weston students. Its initial focus has been to study the impacts of moving the middle and high school start times to later and is working towards implementing this change for the 2018-2019 school year. The likely recommendation will be for middle and high school to begin at 8:45 a.m. and end at 3:15 p.m.
There is still more planning and a few challenges that need to be considered and the Steering Committee is soliciting community feedback. In the coming weeks and months, the Steering Committee will be reaching out to parents, faculty, staff, and the community through forums, surveys, and the School's website. The Steering Committee will be making a presentation to the School Committee on October 30th.
Superintendent of Weston Public Schools, Dr. Midge Connolly, has written a letter describing the Steering Committee's work, which contains links to the research being used and a community feedback email.
