On Saturday, January 21st, Weston received the Municipal Website Award from the Massachusetts Municipal Association (MMA) for the 5,000 – 15,000 population category. The MMA annually presents awards to towns and cities that recognize the outstanding achievements in improving the effectiveness of local government. The Website Award recognizes the excellence in customer service, functionality, convenience and government transparency provided in Weston’s website, which was evaluated on its:

  • intuitive navigation and organization of materials
  • robust search function
  • timely information
  • availability of public records, such as meeting minutes and financial information
  • functionality, interactivity and convenience
  • information about departments
  • visual appeal and experience, and more

The new www.weston.org site was launched in September of 2015 and was designed to help residents find information more easily, as well as to conveniently follow important town business and news.

The Town uses the available email and text subscription lists found on the “Stay Informed” page to keep residents informed on a variety of topics, including Latest Town News and Public Safety News. Residents can also easily follow project progress and the business of the many Town boards and committees by choosing to receive the meeting agendas and minutes of those bodies. The Meeting Calendar, a monthly Town Hall newsletter, weekly DPW updates, Recreation news, and more are also available for subscription, which is as simple as entering an email address and/or cell number and checking off the topics of choice.

The site features five primary menus across the top: “Your Government,” which lists and describes all town boards, committees, and departments, Town Meeting and Election information, and financial information; “Town Services,” such as online payments and public safety; “Our Community,” highlighting Weston’s history and conservation lands; “Town Projects,” providing summary and detailed information on various current projects going before Town Meeting and the boards/committees working on them; and a “Help Center.” The home page features a prominent slide show of Weston images and is sometimes used to highlight important upcoming meetings or news. Latest Town News and the Calendar of Meetings are also featured on the home page.

Two informational videos were created to help residents learn how to navigate the www.weston.org site and subscribe to the various email/text lists. These can be found at www.YouTube.com/TownofWeston. The new website was created to make it easy for residents to keep up with town news and projects and to easily find the information they need, so feedback is welcome. If you have suggestions for the website or would like to see additional features, please send comments to webmaster@westonmass.org

The MMA is a nonprofit, nonpartisan association that provides advocacy, training and other services to Massachusetts cities and town, and is the only statewide organization that brings municipal officials together to establish and advocate unified policies and ensure the effective delivery of services to community residents.
