Spellman Museum: Celebrate Anniversary of the Moon Landing

Friday, July 20, 2018

The Spellman Museum is celebrating summer with a special exhibit celebrating the 49th anniversary of the landing on the moon. There will be many hands-on activities for children and adults including stamp scavenger hunts, making collections of presidents and animals on stamps, creating stamp mosaics, designing stamps with a space theme, doing sidewalk chalk drawings of stamps, making stamp bookmarks, playing stamp cards games, and arts and crafts activities using stamps. Everyone will be encouraged to send postcards to friends with the Museum providing free postage. Also on exhibit is a display of the research done by nine female scientists using the Alvin research submarine from Wood's Hole. Included are envelopes that were mailed from beneath the sea and stamps featuring many undersea creatures. All children will receive a free packet of stamps plus tips about how to start their own collection.
