Spellman Museum: Martin Luther King Day

Monday, January 16, 2017

A special exhibit featuring stamps both about Dr. King and other great African-Americans will be on display. Children can do various stamp activities including making their own collection of US stamps from the Black Heritage US stamp series. There will be stamp scavenger hunts for prizes, stamp puzzles and searching in the Museum’s two-cent stamp boxes. Children can also design their own Dr. King stamps to display in the Museum’s main gallery. Lessons will be given on how to make unique envelopes to send letters to friends (free postage). In addition, each family will receive a packet of stamps, a Dr. King US commemorative stamp and a booklet prepared by the U.S Post Office featuring African-Americans on stamps with their brief biographies. A booklet about how to start a stamp collection will also be available.
