Weston Cultural Council

The Weston Cultural Council (WCC), the local component of the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC), is seeking three new members to begin terms starting this spring. Appointed by the Board of Selectmen, local Council members are responsible for fulfilling the MCC mission—"to provide access, education and diversity in the arts, humanities, and interpretive sciences in order to improve the quality of life and contribute to the economic vitality of our communities."

Together, the eight to twelve members of the Weston Cultural Council collaborate throughout the year to solicit and evaluate MCC grant applications, determine recipients, and successfully administer the Council grants. Along with publicizing and promoting the annual grant process, WCC members conduct outreach to potential grantees and oversee the individual grants once they are awarded. Currently, the Weston Cultural Council is also beginning an exciting time with expected funding growth and initiatives to develop and produce additional, innovative programming, designed to expand the scope of the arts and culture specifically in our Town and for our residents.

The Weston Cultural Council will convene four to five times per year, with full Council meetings held every other month during the winter, spring, and fall. Prospective WCC members should have a strong interest in the arts, humanities, and/or sciences, and be ready and able to take an active role throughout the annual Cultural Council process. In particular, the Council is seeking new members who are eager to take on leadership roles in a variety of endeavors—ranging from public relations and event planning to financial management and grant administration—that advance the WCC’s overall mission.

If interested, please submit a volunteer application online or send a letter of interest with background information by email to selectmen@westonmass.org or by mail to the Town of Weston, Board of Selectmen, P. O. Box 378, Weston, MA  02493 by March 31, 2017.
